The Fortunatos Biography

The origin of The Fortunatos goes back to 1999 when Paul Colombo joined Mike Bitts, Robin Church and Ken McCoy in the orchestra pit of The American Music Theatre in Lancaster, PA. Working under Music Director Lanny Myers, a six time Emmy winner, the seventeen piece band (with five added strings for the Christmas show), has long been considered the pinnacle of musical sophistication and elegance presented for AMT’s musical revue shows. Members of The Fortunatos contributed orchestrations for these shows. This period set the course for the popularity of the shows that remain to this day.

Fast forward to 2004 when popular local blues musician Dave Holt wants to go in a Louisiana music direction. Getting the cream of the crop in soulful saxophonist McCoy, bassist Bitts, keyboardist/trumpeter/vocalist/percussionist Church and guitarist/ vocalist Colombo, to join with Holt and drummer Tom Webb, a new vibrant sound hit the scene. The Dave Holt Band’s 2007 CD “Now Or Never”garnered rave reviews and led to regional touring.

With Holt’s permanent departure soon after to the Big Easy, The Fortunatoswere born and continue to bring the sound of the bayou to the region adding soul and jazz influences to the musical gumbo. Playing concerts and private affairs, they recently playedbefore thousands headlining a concert at Dover International Speedway before a NASCAR race. With their music rooted in the Nawlins funk of The Neville Brothers, Dr. John, The Meters, and Galactic, The Fortunatos rock. Great original songs, too. These guys love the music thatthey play together and it shows.
