Jazz and Blues
The Mystic Alpacas are the outgrowth of a couple of bands that the members performed in. Saxaphonist Randy Bucksner originally from Philadelphia had formed Main Street Mystics with guitarist John Healy about fifteen years ago as a way to write and perform original songs and play Jazz favorites they both liked. Bassist Vince Coratello,a native of Brooklyn, joined about ten years ago when he relocated to Elizabethtown from Las Vegas. Randy met guitarist and vocalist Mike Hess from Middletown when they performed in a blues band called Wake Up Call for several years. “Papa” John Foust from Denver Pa. has been their solid drummer for almost a decade as well.
The band’s name is a hybrid of the original Main Street Mystics moniker and Park Slope Alpacas which was the label Randy slapped on the group when they did an informal residency at Mexitaly in York a couple years back. When after the monthly shows the musicians decided to become an actual band Mystic Alpacas became the name.
Their music features Mike Hess’s powerful vocals and searing guitar, John Healy’s eclectic and original picking style, and Randy’s wailing sax all backed up the tight and experienced rhythm of Vince and “Papa”John.Their repertoire consists of everything from original tunes in a variety of styles to Jazz standards and classic Blues as well as familiar well worn Rock and Roll covers.
Their sound is perfect for listening or dancing. You can check them out on Facebook and see them in a nearby venue soon.
