Female-fronted, soul-based, Zeppelin meets Chili Peppers!
Maryland-based Sweet Leda—JULIE CYMEK (vocals), JAIME HORRIGAN (bass guitar), OMAR EL DIEAHY (guitar) and DON BOYETTE (drums)—know how to get the party started. The four blend new-school funk and soul with some old-school blues and rock into a stew so red hot, you can feel the flavor from the first bass lick. Cymek’s deep, bluesy wail is familiar and fun, a bopping, rhythmic sneer that’s just as much Mary J. Blige as it is Janis Joplin. And when the band adds in the tenor sax of regular contributor Ron Holloway, who has worked alongside legends Susan Tedeschi, Warren Haynes, Dizzy Gillespie and more, Sweet Leda is a full force of nature, and not one to be reckoned with. They are no strangers to the LR&B stage, where they made a name for themselves in 2014 thanks to a no-holds-barred approach with the sole purpose of getting the crowd moving and hips shaking. Catch them again at LR&B 2019 and feel the sexy funk!
Maryland area music fans should note, The Ron Holloway Band is also playing Sunday at Lancaster Roots and Blues at the Elks Stage from 5:00 p.m. t0 6:30 p.m. Come check out both shows.
