Dane Paul Russell Band
Harmonica driven blues fun
Dane’s story is a true blues story, he always loved Music. He credits Music for saving his life through a childhood filled with abuse. Dane started playing Harp in 1974 when he traded aguitar for a harmonica and two albums, while living at a home for “troubled youth” That was 50 years ago and he still at it.
The first version of the Dane Paul Russell band was in 1998 where they did about 100 gigs until 1999 when he was hired by blacktop, recording artist, Bobby Parker and the Blues Night Band. He toured, played and recorded with Bobby for 15 years until his death in 2013.
While playing with Bobby he got to do some amazing venues including Montreal Jazz fest, Chicago blues Festival and the Montreux jazz festival to name a few. In Montreux they recorded a DVD with Bobby Parker and Carlos Santana.
Dane has also shared the stage with most notably Bobby Parker, Carlos Santana, Chuck Brown, Bo Diddley and the Nighthawks. In 2016 Dane was asked to join the Kelly Bell Band doing approximately 150 gigs per year. He played, toured and recorded with them, for six years and still has a great deal of fun doing several gigs per year with them.
Dane had been a sideman for 21 years and felt it was time to do his own thing again. He got his start his first long-term band the Bubbas, who were regulars playing at Rich Ruoff’s Chameleon Club on Christian Street and after at the Water Street location. He feels a great deal of gratitude to return to Lancaster for the roots and blues fest.
