Al Moretti bio and show details
Al Moretti, in his own words:
As a painter, jazz musician, trumpeter, and composer, I draw inspiration from the harmonies and rhythms of both sound and color. Whether I’m wielding a brush or my trumpet, my creative decisions are guided by elements such as rhythm, articulation, dynamics, phrasing, and harmony. My music composition process also influences my painting subjects and style, creating a seamless connection between the two art forms and a more conceptual approach to my work.
One way in which I bridge the gap between sound and color is by associating each hue with a tonal equivalent. For instance, the color yellow evokes the tone Bb, which is particularly meaningful to me as a Bb trumpet player. By leveraging the language, theory, form, and emotional depth of music, I’m able to break free from familiar patterns and take my art in new and exciting directions.
Although I’ve been creating music and art for several decades, I continue to explore the intersection of these two passions in my work. Lately, I’ve been experimenting with acrylics to paint musical icons and themes that have shaped my career and life, infusing each piece with a fresh energy and sense of excitement.
